Four Wheeling

Fueling The Fire For Environmental Groups Will Not Help Us Save Our Sport From Elimination - Please Use Your Common Sense When Enjoying The Great Outdoors!

Environmental Organizations Are Watching, Taking Notes, & Reporting Every Stupid Move We Make

Four-wheeling activities in Northern California and everywhere else are being subjected to a thorough scrutinizing by environmental organizations who have the ears of our regulators, and they are hell bent on elimination of  these activities from our public lands. Unfortunately for us, there is a certain amount of justification for this scrutiny, because there are a still some uneducated, knuckle-headed people out there providing these organizations with evidence that improper use of off road vehicles can and does cause damage to the environment. So, If we intend to preserve our right to continue using our public lands for recreational activities like four wheeling, we must put a stop to the abusive behavior that is adding fuel to the environmental organizations' case that is being brought against the entire Four Wheel and Off Road community.
At Nor Cal Outdoor we enjoy four-wheeling as much as anybody. We even like to take our rigs off-road just to see what they are capable of, just like most enthusiasts do. But we have gotten into the habit of doing all of our four-wheeling in either designated areas or on private property where we are not causing damage to the environment. On occasion we do have a need to utilize four-wheel drive to get to the places we are headed, but we always stay on designated roads or trails, and we do not leave our trash behind for someone else to find. We firmly believe that if everyone were to do the same, pressure from the enviro groups would be reduced and we would stand a better chance of presenting "our case" when the time comes.
In an effort to spread sound use principles throughout the Four-wheel and Off-road community, we will glady post information presented to us by organizations wishing to promote safe, environmentally responsible practices in regard to four wheel & off road activities on our public lands. We invite you to send us your ideas, your photos, your stories or other content that may benefit our visitors in their pursuit of the same.

The Voice Of The 4x4 Community Regarding Land Use Decisions

All of us have an opportunity to be involved in the Land Use Decision Making Process. Even if it is only in the form of a signature on a petition, our elected officials need to hear our call for inclusion in the considerations of what they are doing to impact our sport.

Some good folks out in Western Pennsylvania are circulating a petition to have some of our "Public Lands" designated for "Off Road Use". If you would like to help support this worthy cause, please follow this link to sign the petition. Now, when you get there, you will sign the petition, and the next screen will ask for a donation. Go ahead if you want to, but by the time this screen comes up, you will have already made your signature count. If you don't want to donate, just close the window. Thanks for your support of this cause. If you do go to sign this petition, please drop me a note through any of the Contact Us links here on this website. Let me know what state you are from. I would like to know that the people who visit us here are supportive of our sport outside of just our own little local worlds. The Internet is a powerful tool, and we should be using it to help us win some of the battles we face in keeping our sport alive.

Four Wheeling: More than a pastime, it's a way of life!

Thanks to the introduction of four door pick-ups, modernized Jeeps, and the ever popular SUV it is safe to estimate that nearly one in three vehicles on the road today  have some sort of four-wheel drive capability. We are here to tell you that it is readily apparent that Four-wheeling has become more than just a favorite pastime, for some, it's a way of life! And thousands of people all over the country, including yours truly, have taken up this sport/hobby/lifestyle, developing  a community of enthusiasts, and taking the lead in education, information and management in an effort to instill and maintain a better image of the Off Road industry and the individuals who partake in the activities associated with it.

A vast majority of the Off-Road Community is made up of normal, everyday people like you & I, who respect and admire the environment as much as anyone. We work all week to support our families, and when pay-day comes, hopefully we will have enough leftover to enjoy our hobbies. We want to be able to get out and do something fun and exciting. For Four Wheeling enthusiasts, this might mean grabbing up the spouse, kids and maybe even the Dog and heading out into the back country for a little four wheeling excursion.

A lot of us would never even have the opportunity to witness the grandeur of our back country if it weren't for the ability to get out there and explore the back roads and trails that meander throughout our National Parks, Forests, and BLM lands. It is this ability to experience Mother Nature, that instills in us the desire to preserve it as well as all of our Natural Resources. This in turn, keeps us in tune to what our government and it's many entities are doing to preserve, or eliminate our rights to utilize them.

Jeep in the Snow As the number of four-wheel drive vehicle owners increase, so does the number of people driving them off road. This would be okay if all of these people driving their rigs off road knew how to operate their vehicles responsibly, but unfortunately many don't. Due to the fact that common sense & sensibility are not prerequisites to owning a four-wheel drive vehicle, education regarding responsible off road vehicle use is inevitably learned through the school of trial and error. Which means that a lot of errors can be made before people even realize that what they are doing could be detrimental to the environment and ultimately, our sport. This is why we need to be vigilant in stepping up to the plate when we see people committing acts of "irresponsibillity" that can lead to further restrictions and possibly, a total elimination of our "right" to continue to utillize public lands for "responsible" off road activities.

5.7L Chevy Engine Swap A.K.A. "Wrangler With Attitude"

Bookmark this page and keep checking back with us, because we are getting ready to begin our "Project Wrangler With Attitude". This will be a DIY (do it yourself), complete power plant upgrade on a 1995 Jeep Wrangler YJ.  We have taken possession of a 1995 GMC Sierra 3/4 ton Truck with a TBI(Throttle Body Injected) 5.7Liter V-8, and will be posting all of our progress on this website. So far, we have only just started the engine removal process and will be getting that part done over the week-end. We will post some pictures here as we go along.

We hope to be able to show all of you do it yourselfers how to take on a project like this and get it done within a limited budget and still end up with a "straight from the factory" look and performance, as well as dependability. We estimate that this project will take us approximately two months (provided everything goes according to plan). Look for our first article over the next few days. We will start with an introduction to what and why we are doing this and then follow up with articles of our step by step progress and lots of pictures.

If you are reading this and have already done a project of this magnitude, then by all means feel free to send us some tips, ideas, advice or what ever you95 GMC Sierra "Donor Vehicle" for project "Wrangler With Attitude" think can help us out on this endeavor. Send us your links to articles that may be helpful as well as sources you might know that can supply us with the needed parts that we don't already have such as the motor mounts, radiator, adapters ect... If you are considering taking on a project like this, then we hope that what we present here will be of help to you.
