Choosing a Venue for Your Jeep Project

Find The Right Location To Perform Your Jeep Project

Where you decide to set up will have some bearing on how well your Jeep project is going to go together.

Here are some suggestions to consider when choosing where your Jeep will be receiving it's transpant.

Proffesional Mechanics Shop:

Having access to a nice proffesional mechanics shop with a solid, clean, concrete or cement floor, good lighting and all the tools you'll need and maybe even a lift will make it much easier to focus on getting the project done. You will save time and effort because, lets face it, this is what mechanics shops are for. Things just seem to get done faster and easier when you have an environment that is suited for the type of work that you will be doing. You'll be able to work  on your project longer and more efficiently.

Garage:

Not everyone (in-fact, very few of us) has access to the full fledged shop as described above. The next best choice for a location to complete the project would be a garage. Yours, your friend's or even a temporarily rented garage will be much better than the less preferred choices down at the bottom of the list. You will at least have a good clean floor, good lighting and you will be able to get everything you need organized and ready for the duration. Not to mention, having a door that can be closed to keep the heat in and cold out (especially if you're working after dark or in the winter time), as well as keep your project much safer from vandals and theives.

Shed or Lean to:

When worse comes to worse, there may be no other choice than to set up shop for your project inside a Shed or Lean To. This is far from an ideal envirnment, but at least you should still have a roof over your head and possibly still be able to keep your project mostly indoors. The biggest inconvenience of this situation is that there is very little room in a shed and virtually no space or shelves for tool storage and organization of parts that will inevitibly be strewn about. But hey, like I said, if worse come to worse, anything will have to do. You'll just have to work a little harder at keeping things clean and organized.

Outdoors

Although it can be done, the last resort would be to perform this project outdoors in the dirt. You will be miserably dirty from the first moment you crawl under the rig. You'll need to take extra care to make sure that important parts are kept clean, and when you finish work for the day, you'll want to cover everything up with a heavy tarp to keep your project clean and dry. You'll also need to pack up all your tools and other valuables every day to avoid having them walk off.
