Reaching milestones at Nor Cal Outdoor.

Get the book!

If you happened to be one of our first few visitors when we launched this site back in February, you would be able to see that we are beginning to have some things come together here that we feel are milestones in our progress toward getting to where we want to be. We have been able to secure relationships with several vendors for the products that we want to offer our customers, and are adding more all the time. The website layout has changed considerably to reflect this. Most of these changes allow for a better user experience and navigability, giving our customers an easier way to find whatever they might be in search of in the realm of outdoor recreational products and information. Some are just a reflection of how we want this site to appear to our visitors. You can be assured of one thing: That as we go along, you will see even more changes, and improvement as we are constantly at work trying to develop a better experience for our visitors and potential customers. One thing we would like to see happening is more interaction from our visitors. We want to know what you want, we want to know more about you, and we want to be able to provide you with more opportunities to get the most benefit from visiting the Nor Cal Outdoor website. We also would love to have some of our visitors sending us pictures, stories, information or whatever. It is pretty hard to provide our customers with content about the outdoor recreation activities we cover here based only on our own experiences. So if you are reading this and you feel the urge to share some of these things with us and the rest of our visitors, then you should do so. One last thing to ask of you: Take a moment and go to our contact page and sign up for our mailing list so that we may occasionally send you updates on things that might be of interest to you. We will not be sending you spam, and we will not be sharing your information with others (read our Privacy Policy).

New post - April 14, 2007

ABalone season opened on Sunday, April 1st, were you there? I wasn't there, I usually wait for the second week-end because there are too many people on opening day and I don't care to dive in the crowds. We did manage to get down to Fort Bragg last week-end, but it was pretty much a wasted day (except for the always beauiful drive down hi-way 1).

We left the house in Mckinleyville at exactly 4:45 a.m. and arrived at the woodside campground exactly three hours later. I knew as soon as we saw the ocean, it was not going to be a good day for diving, but we headed down to Jug Handle anyway to give it a shot. The first thing I did shortly after gettting all suited up and ready to go was set my fins down on a rock while I helped my brother finish getting his gear on. Guess what? A nice big wave came up and washed my fins off into the ocean and before I could do anything about it, they were gone! Well, that kind of just ruined it all for me right there, but I thought I'd just put on my spare pair of fins and at least go see if I could scrape up a limit real quick. By the time I got in the water it was too late - the ocean was getting too rough for my taste - so, we just packed it in and headed for home. We'll go back in a couple of weeks and maybe the ocean will be in better shape.
